Introduction

The US News & World Report 2008 Graduate Rankings placed Georgia Tech (GT)'s graduate engineering program as fourth in the nation. The Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) program has maintained its number one position for the past 17 years. The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)’s Computer Engineering graduate curriculum is ranked 6th, the Electrical Engineering graduate curriculum is ranked 7th in the USA.

The Dual-Masters Degree Program between Georgia Tech and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) offers Chinese students the opportunity to pursue a non-thesis Master of Science (MS) degree in ECE or ISYE (specializing in Logistics) from GT, and a thesis MS degree in a closely related discipline from SJTU. The program is located at the Minhang campus of SJTU in Shanghai, China. The non-thesis MS degree is an existing GT degree; courses will be taught by GT faculty or adjunct faculty during the summer and fall semesters of each year. The diploma that one earns from GT-Shanghai is the same as from GT-Atlanta.

Whereas the GT MS degree normally requires 3 semesters for completion and the SJTU MS degree takes 5 semesters (2.5 years) to complete, dual-MS degree program students can expect to spend 7 semesters (2.5 years, including the summers) to complete the two degrees.

Non-Georgia resident students pay significantly reduced tuition and fees at GT-Shanghai as compared to GT-Atlanta. Program students will also have the option to exchange to GT-Atlanta to conduct graduate research or to take courses and participate in academic training (internship). GT ECE PhD preliminary exams are offered twice annually, simultaneously in Atlanta and in Shanghai. Upon passing the PhD preliminary exam, GT-Shanghai students are re-classified as PhD students and can directly enroll in the GT-Atlanta ECE PhD degree program.

The program also accepts non-Chinese citizen students who are interested in pursuing the GT MS degree in Shanghai. During the spring term, GT single degree students are encouraged to engage in internship training with multinational companies, or to participate in language and cultural courses offered through SJTU.

Non-GT degree seeking students who are currently enrolled at other US universities as degree-seeking students can apply to become transient students at GT-Shanghai for one semester.
