Financial Aid

Coulter Fellowships:

The Wallace H. Coulter Foundation is a philanthropic organization located in Miami, Florida, USA. The Foundation is interested in awarding approximately $100,000 in fellowships each year for 5 years to support students in the GT-SJTU ECE Dual-MS degree program. Women engineering students are especially encouraged to apply. To be eligible, the applicant must (i) be from documented low-income families and (ii) have academic standards high enough to be accepted into the GT-SJTU ECE Dual-MS degree program regardless of need. The Fellowship is both need-based and merit-based. Fellowship recipients are expected to engage in community service projects during the award period, to demonstrate or to cultivate their sense of social responsibility. Depending on the qualifications, the fellowship pays full or partial GT-Shanghai tuition and fees as well as the cost of textbooks. Coulter Scholarships:

To assist Georgia Tech US citizen students to take advantage of the GT - Shanghai graduate program, the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation is pleased to offer a number of Coulter Scholarships to current GT ECE, ISYE, and CS students to participate in the GT-Shanghai graduate courses for one semester. The Coulter Scholarship provides $2,500 to each qualified applicant to offset the GT - Shanghai tuition & fees. Minimum course load is 2 courses during the scholarship term.

To be eligible, the applicant must meet the following requirements: (i) The applicant is a U.S. citizen; (ii) The applicant is a current GT graduate student or BS/MS program student in good academic and disciplinary standing; (iii) The student's current GPA is 3.25 or above; (iv) The student is currently enrolled in the School of ECE, the School of ISYE, or the College of Computing.

Applicants should submit a 2-page essay (in .pdf format) to the program director by February 1. The essay should include (i) Your name, GTID, email, phone, major, advisor; (ii) a description of your unique characteristics and capabilities, outstanding achievements, leadership, service, etc, (iii) a statement of why you are interested in the scholarship and what you hope to gain from the study abroad experience.

Graduate Assistantship:

A limited number of Graduate Assistantship positions are available to Georgia Tech – Shanghai MS degree program students. This is need-based and merit-based financial assistance that pays one-third (1/3) of the GT - Shanghai graduate tuition. The Graduate Assistant (GA) must be willing to provide administrative support to the GT – Shanghai Office in exchange for tuition relief. Currently, 320 hours of administrative service is expected over a 3-semster period. For each semester that the GA enrolls in GT-Shanghai courses, the assistantship pays one-third (1/3) of the GT-Shanghai graduate tuition, and the GA pays the remaining two-thirds (2/3). In addition, the GA is expected to pay the full technology fee (currently at $103 per semester). The assistantship automatically renews for the following semester, unless the GA does not meet his/her assigned assistantship tasks.

Applicants for the GA position should prepare a 2-page essay on the following: (i) Up to 1/2 page justifying your financial need; (ii) Up to 1 page describing your unique characteristics and capabilities, outstanding achievements, leadership, service, etc. (iii) Up to 1/2 page outlining your skills that the GT-Shanghai office can take advantage of to make the program better.  Supporting documents, such as evidence of financial need and copies of award certificates, should be submitted to Ms. Rui Shi, SEIEE 3-307, Tel: (021) 3420-6760, by March 1.

Industrial Scholarships:

We are pleased to announce the availability of "Stellar Scholarships", thanks to the generous support from the Stellar Services.

  • Eligibility: GT-SJTU ECE Dual-MS degree program students with undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or above (on the 4.0 scale), are eligible to apply for the Stellar Scholarships. See the Application FAQ page regarding the GPA calculation.

  • Amount: Two $2,000 Stellar Scholarships will be awarded each year to GT-SJTU ECE dual-MS degree program students during their first Fall semester at GT-Shanghai to offset their GT tuition expenses.
  • Selection: Stellar Scholarship students are selected based on their academic performance at the time of program application. Evaluation will be based on undergraduate coursework, official ranking information, competitions and scholarships won, etc. A team of GT and SJTU faculty members will make the selection.

  • Obligations: There are no additional obligations other than that the recipients intend to complete the GT-SJTU ECE dual-MS degree program.
  • Internship: Based on the student's qualification, Stellar Scholarship recipient will have preferred consideration for internship position at the Stellar Services Shanghai office.

Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA):

One GTA position is available to assist with the MATH 2403 "Differential Equations" course for the Georgia Tech Shanghai Summer Program. Applications are accepted during the month of October. The position pays a stipend of 8,000 RMB for work performed during the summer term as well as preparations leading up to it.
