General FAQ About GT-Shanghai
- Q: Do I have to know the Chinese language in order to study at GT-Shanghai?
A: No, you do not. Although English is not widely spoken in China, many young people in Shanghai do understand English. Most street signs are in Chinese and English. All GT-Shanghai courses are taught in English by GT professors or adjunct professors. - Q: What about
credit for classes?
A: Courses offered at GT-Shanghai are regular GT classes that appear in the registration system just like all other courses offered at GT. Because they are regular GT classes, grades earned in these courses are shown on a participant's GT transcript and are calculated as part of the GT GPA. - Q: Are there English-speaking hospitals in
Shanghai?
A: Yes! See the Health/Medical Services page for a comprehensive list. For example, World Link has experienced medical and dental professionals from the best hospitals and universities from around the world, including the U.S., Canada, U.K., Germany, Japan and Singapore. Shanghai East International Medical Center is a U.S.-China joint venture hospital. Huashan Hospital is very close to SJTU’s Xuhui campus; it has a Foreigners' Clinic (19/F) whose quality of service is comparable to what you may experience in the US.
