Transient Students at Georgia Tech - Shanghai
Students from other U.S. institutions are welcome to participate in the Georgia Tech - Shanghai programs as graduate transient students.
You are a transient student if
- You are currently enrolled at a U.S. university other than Georgia Tech;
- You are a degree-seeking student at that university;
- You have never taken classes at Georgia Tech as a degree-seeking graduate student and you have never earned a graduate degree from Georgia Tech.
A transient student enrolls at Georgia Tech for one semester only in order to take certain coursework which will transfer back to the home institution. Transient status makes a student eligible for admission during the approved semester only and does not imply nor guarantee future enrollment at Georgia Tech.
Students attending Georgia Tech on a transient student basis are classified as special, non-degree students and are not normally eligible to continue studies at Georgia Tech to hopefully attain a degree from Georgia Tech. These students should plan to return to their home institution to complete the degree.
A transient student must have permission to take classes at Georgia Tech as authorized by the Registrar at the home institution. On the "Special/Transient Student Permission Form", the home institution Registrar needs to certify that "The student named above has not been dropped or dismissed for any reason, and is not currently on any form of status which would render the student ineligible to return to the home institution. The student has permission to register at the Georgia Institute of Technology as a transient student not pursuing a Georgia Tech degree."
Transient students pay the same tuition and fees as Georgia Tech students for the various Georgia Tech – Shanghai programs (see the individual program pages for program-specific tuition and fees). In addition, there is a $50 non-refundable Georgia Tech Admissions Application fee.
